"We move students from the corner of the room to the center of their own narrative."

The story behind the name

Most families already know this student.

On one hand, it's the kid sitting quietly in the corner. Bright and capable, but completely disorganized. They want to succeed, but executive dysfunction leaves them frozen, staring at a blank page. Because they don't disrupt the class, their anxiety goes unnoticed. They simply fade into the background.

On the other hand, it's the child literally sent to the corner. The one constantly told to sit out, sit still, or just try harder. They are labeled a disruption simply because their fast-moving mind doesn't fit into traditional school systems built for a completely different kind of thinker.

"You have so much potential."

Whether they are hiding in plain sight or acting out their frustration, both students carry the exact same heavy weight. That student — in every sense of the name — is the focus of Kid in the Corner Consulting.

We don't try to fix their mind to match the room; we give them the strategies, movement, and self-awareness to step out of the corner and own their narrative.

The 80HD Philosophy™

Turning ADHD into High Definition.

ADHD often creates blind spots. Self-awareness creates clarity. The more a student understands how they learn, regulate, organize, communicate, and initiate — the more successful they become.

80HD Program — Mountain Bike & Life Skills Coaching

80HD stands for helping students develop High Definition awareness of themselves, their strengths, their challenges, their environment, and their future.

About David

Two decades inside the schools shaping these students.

I've spent more than twenty years working with students in independent schools, boarding schools, therapeutic environments, residential programs, and college-preparatory settings — as a teacher, coach, division leader, Head of School, and Vice Principal.

I've watched bright students lose confidence at every transition: elementary to middle, middle to high, high school to college, college to career. The 80HD Method is the system I wish every one of them had.

Why movement, why outside

The method didn't start in a classroom. It started on two wheels and in the woods.

Where the clear thinking came from

That's me at the starting line — helmet too big, bike too small, focused all the way down. Long before I learned the language of executive function, BMX taught it to me directly: pick a line, commit, recover, go again. Pedaling turned a busy brain into a quiet one. Falling taught me that a setback is just data. The growth mindset I now coach students through isn't a theory I picked up from a book — it's the rhythm I've been pedaling since I was a kid.

Why the best sessions happen outside

Some of my most honest conversations with students have happened on a trail, a chairlift, or a snowy walk in the woods. Outside, the pressure drops. Eye contact stops being a performance. Kids talk. The outdoors isn't a hobby I tack onto the work — it's the room where the work actually happens. When the seasons cooperate, the office is a singletrack. When they don't, it's a pair of boots and a stand of cedars.
